Tila Tequila Spring Break

MTV is coming back to Panama City Beach for Spring Break (or so negotiations have almost confirmed).

The Tourist Development Council’s marketing committee agreed to a staff proposal that would partner with MTV’s college arm, mtvU, to promote Panama City Beach on its Web site as the U.S. destination of choice for Spring Break.

However, the committee pared back from $250,000 to $200,000 the price it was willing to recommend for the promotion, which also would include a link from the mtvU Web site to a new TDC Spring Break Web site that would highlight Beach businesses.

The partnership outlined Tuesday includes a 30-second television promotion that would air 300 times on MTV between November and February, PCB-branded banners across the mtvU Web site and a college campus kickoff tour that promotes Panama City Beach as the premier Spring Break location.

The mtvU presence, once Spring Break arrives in March, would include a 10-day “main stage” atmosphere with eight live concerts.

The staff proposal Tuesday also included details of a new Panama City Beach Spring Break ‘09 Web site, still under construction, where Beach business “partners” would be highlighted for a fee to the TDC in a multi-tiered system, said Susan Estler, vice president of marketing for the TDC.

Because students often make plans in groups, the site would include areas where potential spring breakers could gather favorite attractions together in one place, and would have tools allowing students to e-mail friends.

The mtvU Web site partnership also would include a contest where students could sign up for all-expense-paid trips to Spring Break. The information collected would allow Beach business partners to e-mail and text-message promotions once students arrived.
